December meeting and party

Our next MCS session will be downriver at the River's Edge Gallery in Wyandotte this Sunday (the 18th) starting at 3:30 in the afternoon and going to whenever. We are starting a bit earlier than usual because the gallery will be open and walk ins can come and and check us out. So, this will be like any other meeting, but will also be our Holiday party, so if you want to bring a snack or drinks you are more than welcome.

Here is the address:

River's Edge Gallery
3024 Biddle Ave.
Wyandotte, MI 48192

See you there!

Ashleigh Popplewell, Scott & Michelle Schommer and Sara Pulkovski

MCS did great at Detroit Fanfare this past weekend! We raised $194.26... I think I can scrounge up some change in the Pulkovski couch and round that up to $200 to cff.org for Cystic Fibrosis research. Big thanks to Michelle Lucas Schommer and Scott Schommer for manning the table and bringing in the dough! Also thanks to the talented artists for volunteering their time and services and to Tony Miello and Detroit Fanfare for their hospitality!

Tony got his start inking for independent publishers before launching his webcomic, Gapo the Clown which has now exceeded over 500 strips. He also works on the comic of the TV show, Wolfman Mac’s Chiller Drive Inand for the pop punk band, Bowling for Soup.

Motor City Sketch will be at The Detroit Fanfare at Cobo Hall in September! We will be raising some money for some charities that are close to our hearts. (Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The Belle Isle Aquarium and Lymphoma)

For the rest of our meets leading up to Fanfare, we will be doing Sketch Jams to be auctioned off at Fanfare. A Sketch jam is a single piece of artwork that is created by several different artists on a single subject. Please take a moment and take a look in the left bar and vote for what you'd like us to sketch!
The Next Motor City Sketch is at Wonderwold Comics in Taylor. We have a ton of fine creatives that come to our little social network and they hail from all over the metro area, so we plan on moving MCS around to accomidate everyone and keep it fresh.

March we are heading west to Taylor where Wonderworld Comics will open their doors to our shenanigans! What a perfect way to get inspired, than to sit around in an awesome comic shop surrounded by wall to wall colorful comic books. As we are not in an establishment that serve food or beverage, please feel free to bring your own.

If anyone out there has any recommendations for futures meets, please let us know. Thanks everyone for keeping this puppy rolling and growing it bigger than we ever thought!

WE ARE NOT MEETING HERE!

Motor City Sketch is going to be held at Progressive Art & Framing in Clawson this month. This is a little different for us, but we are pleased to have them as a sponsor this month. They heard about us and dug what we do enough to invite us into there place, bring in some Pizza (yum) and show us some of their work and demo some of their machinery for us. This months event will be a BYOB event. (Yes you can bring Liquor in moderation of course and if you are of age)

COPIC Rocks!

I've always been a huge fan of Copic. I love there products and create allot of work with them. I am often asked to compare Copic markers to Prismacolr and I always have the same response: They are both great and can give you the same results. Although much pricier, Copic is a little smoother and will get you to your destination with less "elbow grease."

Along with many other companies, we contacted both Copic and Prismacolor to see if they had interest in sponsoring what we do in our art community and Copic were super excited to do so. They did an awesome write-up in there blog about us and sent over a ton of free pit pens and markers to give out along with stickers and literature about their products. On top of that, they sent over a Black Ink Pro Wallet to gift out to a lucky guest.

COPIC ROCKS!!!

By the way, we are still waiting to hear back from Prismacolor.

WINNER!

Some pit pen fun courtesy of Copic and our lucky winner!
